TV use has significant potential to harm children's development |
The amount time spent watching television by young children has been rising since its invention. A comprehensive review of the available evidence by Dr. Dimitri Christakis (Seattle Children's Research Institute, University of Washington,USA) was published in January 2009 in Acta Pædiatrica.
The review conculdes that no studies have demonstrated benefits associated with early infant TV viewing. However, there is a preponderance of existing evidence that suggests the potential for harm. Dr. Christakis advises that parents should exercise caution inexposing infants to excessive television viewing.
