HPV Vaccine Introducted into the UK's Immunisation Programme |
Vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV) has been introduced into the UK's national immunisation programme.
Certain types of HPV are responsible for over 70% of cases of cervical cancer and it is estimated that the vaccination programme will save 400 lives per year. The vaccine will be offered to girls aged 12-13 years old with as well as a two-year catch up programme aimed at girls aged up to 18 years old.
