Asthma linked to psychiatric disorders
A recent publication in Journal of Adolescent Health links asthma to a higher risk of psychiatric disorders in young people. The research by Katon and colleagues concludes that young people with asthma have an almost twofold higher prevalence of comorbid DSM-IV anxiety and depressive disorders compared with controls. They advise that doctors looking after young people with asthma should be aware of this association.
