Screening for MCADD to start in England
All babies in England are to be screened for an inherited metabolic disease called Medium Chain Acyl CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD). The Department of Health recently announced a plan to start screening newborn screening for Medium Chain Acyl CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD).  If detected early, the risk of complications from this inherited metabolic condition can be reduced.  The test will be carried out on the newborn screening blood spot card that is already performed so no additional blood tests will be required.
