Screening tool may detect autism in one year old children. |

The results of a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics demonstrate that autism may be reliably detected as early as one year.
Typically autism and autistic spectrum disorders are not detected or diagnosed until years later. Although the tool described in the paper is only a screening tool and not a formal diagnosis it can be used to identify children that may warrant close follow-up.
